Pricing

$50 a console. Local drop-off included.

No tiers to compare and nothing held back for an upsell. Bring the console to us in East Palo Alto โ€” or meet us in one of the nearby cities โ€” and $50 covers everything on this page. Only two things add to it: delivery further out, and a storage card if you don't have one.

Multiple consoles: 10% off two, 15% off three or more. Prices in US dollars.

128 GB microSD card

Optional โ€” only if you don't already have storage.

$30per console

  • 128 GB microSD card supplied
  • SD2Vita adapter included
  • Capacity-tested before we trust your saves to it
  • Formatted and mounted as the console's main storage
  • Everything from your old card moved onto it
  • Arrives with your game picks already on it

Bringing your own card and adapter is completely fine and slightly cheaper โ€” configuring storage you already own is part of the $50. This is here so you don't have to work out what to buy.

Why one price

Every console that comes in needs roughly the same hour of attention. Splitting that into packages would mostly be a way to charge more for work that was going to happen anyway โ€” and it puts you in the position of guessing which tier you need before you understand what any of it does.

So: one price, everything on. If your firmware needs a downgrade to hold a permanent hack, that's included. If you want the emulators set up and the theme changed, that's free too โ€” just ask. The two things that cost extra are the ones that genuinely cost us something โ€” a physical card, and getting the console between us when you can't drop it off.

Turnaround & getting it to us

Turnaround

Same day or next day from drop-off or arrival, and there's no rush fee to pay โ€” we don't sell one.

Most jobs take under an hour on the bench, so a weekend drop-off is frequently same-day. Ask when you book and we'll tell you honestly whether you can wait for it.

Where we are

East Palo Alto, California. Weekend afternoons are the long window โ€” drop in at the start of one and you can often wait for the console rather than come back.

Satโ€“Sun 1โ€“7pm. Weekday evenings Monโ€“Fri 7โ€“9pm are shorter, so those are usually drop-off one evening, collect the next. Times by arrangement either way.

Call or text (650) 279-4039 to arrange a slot.

Charged once per order, not per console. Dropping the console off yourself โ€” or meeting in one of the four cities above โ€” costs nothing on top of the $50.

What to bring

The console, its charger, any memory card you want the data from, and your SD2Vita adapter and microSD if you already own them. Leave game cartridges and cases at home. If you don't have storage yet, add the $30 card and we'll bring it to you set up.

The software we install

All of it is free, open-source homebrew written by the PS Vita community. We install and configure it; we don't charge for the software itself and neither does anyone else.

The foundation

  • taiHEN โ€” the custom firmware framework everything else loads through
  • ensล / enso_ex โ€” makes the hack survive a power-off, on firmware that supports it
  • VitaShell โ€” file manager, package installer and FTP server
  • StorageMgr or YAMT โ€” mounts your microSD as the console's main storage

The fun part

  • Adrenaline โ€” PSP and PS1 at close to native quality
  • RetroArch โ€” everything older, from NES through to arcade
  • VitaDB Downloader โ€” an on-device store so you can add more yourself
  • Plugins โ€” volume limiter removal, native resolution patches, overclocking on request
And games to run on it

Consoles don't leave here empty. Emulated systems are set up and tested โ€” PSP and PS1 through Adrenaline, and NES, SNES, Mega Drive, Game Boy, GBA and arcade through RetroArch โ€” alongside your pick of the free catalogue and backups of any cartridges or PSN purchases you bring us. The FAQ covers what turns up on the card.

Work out your price

$50 a console if you drop it off, plus $15 delivery if you can't and $30 for a card if you need one. The builder does the arithmetic.
